The Secret of Prospecting Without Losing Your Friends!
I am a huge fan of Tony Michael, our Vice President of Sales and Marketing in SuccessUniversity. He became the youngest person to ever be featured in “6 Figure Income” magazine. In fact, he was already earning a six figure income at the age of 19!
He started his MLM business at the age of 18. He had no network, no skills, no mentor. Only a desire to succeed, that is only exceeded by the willingness to overcome fear and failure.
He taught this phrase that helps any MLM business owner to very quickly get eyeballs to your website/prospecting tool.
First, make the call. Very important step.
Small talk for only 1 min max. Do not get into the MLM side of things after 1 min. It had been proven and tested that it will back fire, so you want to get into it quick.
Say this. Word for word first for 50 calls. If you get positive response (i.e. they agree to take a look) for 40 calls, continue using it. If not, test and modify to fit your environment/personality etc.
“I came across something useful that I don’t know if it will interest you or not, but I want you to take a look, just to make sure. Do you have a pen and paper handy?”
That’s it! That is useful for friends and family members you want to expose this to.
It is effective because this immediately gets people off the hook. People are naturally negative and they just want to poke holes into your ideas. By saying that they may not be interested, it lets their guard down. More open. That’s what you want.
Some of us want to go in with so much energy and enthusiasm that you will yank the hook off the fish! Remember, you had already attracted them with the bait, now reel them in gently. This is network marketing, not hard core sales. Not everyone will buy. But some, like you and I, are looking for exactly this opportunity! Look for people like us!
